The 10 Year Anniversary of the album 'Taking Up Your Precious Time' was on 10.23.16. An album produced by Derek Vincent Smith and Michal Menert who deemed themselves as Pretty Lights. The history behind this album I am lucky enough to have some knowledge of but with each listen everyone is told the same story. Two friends who made and assembled the most beautiful sounds together that I have ever heard. I personally have a deep connection to the album title since my Crohn's Disease takes up my precious time and I first engorged myself in listening to it when having to deal with the pain. It breaks my heart that nothing will be done by them for this most special of occasions but I know I wouldn't be where I am today if it never existed so I'll appreciate today especially.
When I suggested the idea of the Pretty Lights Family back in 2012 on the PL phone App I wanted someone else to create it since I had never even been in a Facebook group and didn't know how to be an admin. I felt it was important that whoever made it should be active and have a love for PL so when fellow 'We Must Go On' Contest Winner Robbie Beck volunteered I was relieved. Then branching off with the Michal Menert Mafia thanks to the dickbutt Tiberius Benson because Michal deserves his own group and has proven that within the past 4 years. The App was great but man.. Seeing all these people come together on the internet and then in person. Who move across the country or travel just to see the music and the homies from elsewhere. Who have become best friends, fallen in love, become mortal enemies. It genuinely brings tears to my eyes and a smile in my heart every damn day yall.. All because we all have working ear drums and appreciate and connect with phenomenal sounds! Ugh. Music means more to me than most things and I'm glad there are a good bit of you who understand that. We all need to acknowledge the past in order to really be appreciative of the now.
I was hoping to have this in hand by 10.23 but at least I have the original concept art for the new and final PLFam pin. I decided that the best way for me to commemorate the 10 year anniversary of TUYPT was to make the last family pin about the original 1st family, Uncle D and AES. The picture shot is thanks to my main bitch Jess Mc, who I wouldn't know if it wasn't for PL and I wouldn't live in CO if it wasn't for her. The shot is from Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre 2012, my first introduction to Colorado, during the song Samso when D had Mic come on stage to perform together. That show was my first time seeing Michal Menert and that moment is engraved in my brain, making Samso never sound the same in the best way possible. You can also see Derek sporting the 1st PLFam RR pin I created but I doubt that'll show up in the pin lol. Im still awaiting a final art proof and quote from the company but since today is so special I needed it to be shared. Thank you to everyone who has supported my art these past 4 years.
